Computer Modding With 3M’s Carbon Fiber DI-NOC Vinyl

We love being shown new applications that we don’t initially think of when using 3M’s DI-NOC carbon fiber vinyl. This time around, Jeff, took his computer modding to the next level by putting together what he calls the CF800. He used a Corsair 800d case which was modified for water cooling. He did a ton of stuff, including lighting, but used DI-NOC film to just put the build over the top. Here’s how the case looked beforehand:

Here we can see everything put together, with the motherboard in place as well as the water cooling:

Finally we can see the case fully completed. The side has a plexi-glass window which looks fantastic because just parts of the carbon fiber DI-NOC show through. In my opinion, it looks much better than doing the entire case exterior.

Using DI-NOC To Make You Money: iPhone 4 Carbon Fiber DI-NOC Bumpers

Carbon Fiber iPhone 4? DI-NOC It!

Our parent site, Carbon Fiber Gear, is known for carrying real carbon fiber accessories like iPhone cases. As of this writing though, we still haven’t seen a real carbon fiber iPhone 4 case…though they are coming. A real carbon fiber case will likely cost between $60-$100. In the meantime, or if you want the look for less, do what one of our customers did…DI-NOC it! Carbon Fiber Vinyl Gets In The Game…Guitar Hero That Is

We just love when we get e-mails from our customers that have installed 3M’s carbon fiber DI-NOC vinyl on a unique item. This time around Rod took his Playstation 3 guitar for Guitar Hero, and wrapped it with the film:

He did a great job, and because of the flat surface, it looks like it was pretty easy to do. The hardest part would be doing a clean cut of the material to match the guitar shape.

Rod is a musician and does plan on wrapping his real acoustic guitar. He had really great things to say about the material:

What I like the most about the material is that is very forgiven and easy to use…. just apply some heat and your can do whatever you like. I used the rest of my material for small things like my credit card and office mouse. The quality of the vinyl is really superb and it looks really nice!

When wrapping the guitar hero guitar with the vinyl, be sure to completely remove the faceplate for easier installation and better finishing.

Behind the guitar there is a button to easily unlock and remove the faceplate.

DJ Gives His Technics 1200 MK2 Turntable The Carbon Fiber Look

One customer of ours put aside some extra 3M DI-NOC carbon fiber vinyl that he ordered from us, and decided to wrap his Technics 1200 MK2 turntable plinth.

Aside from the carbon fiber vinyl, Will’s 1200 MK2 turntable is modified in a variety of other ways. He has a real carbon fiber straight tonearm from Jesse Dean of Tempo Records. On top of that, he also has modified LED lighting, a custom-painted platter, and a variety of other little modifications…making this turntable one-of-a-kind. Here’s some more pictures:

Will thought the material was easy to install, but was sure to add that using a heat gun was indispensable. He said it turns the material into a stretchable film that felt like a wallpaper sort of material. He wish he had used an squeegee to smooth it out, but was able to make do with a credit card.

The pictures simply do not do it justice, this stuff looks pretty amazing in person. I’ve been a huge carbon fiber fan since my import car days, and even have a carbon fiber toilet seat in my house…I was a little apprehensive about a carbon-look film but I’m very happy with how it turned out.

Another tip that Will provided was that he had cleaned the surface with alcohol prior to installing. He’s already wandering his house looking for other things he can install the material on!

Richard Gives The Asus Eee PC Netbook Some DI-NOC Action

Richard took his Asus Eee PC 900A netbook and covered the front in the 3M carbon fiber DI-NOC film:

We asked Richard what his thoughts were of the material and working with it, here’s what he had to say:

Well my first thoughts when I got my hands on the vinyl where ‘Wow this stuff looks and feels great’. I tried samples of many other brands of carbon fibre vinyl before landing on 3M. Nothing really comes close to the look of 3M Di-NOC, it’s without doubt the realest looking carbon out there. The stuff isn’t cheap, but it’s well worth it…and besides who wants a cheap looking finish?

As for applying it, it’s very forgiving. It can be peeled off and reapplied a number of times so you can get the perfect finish. If it gets creased a little heat will make them fall right out, it’s easy to work with if you know what your doing.

Im going to be using it to coat the battery cover on the back of my phone as it seems to get scrathed pretty easily, that’s another great thing about DI-NOC. It’s super scratch resistant. I’m constantly pulling my netbook out of my bag and dragging it around wherever I go and it hasn’t got a single scratch.. the stuff is just perfect.
