Video: How To Splice and Extend DI-NOC To Make It Wider

One of the complaints we’ve had with the 3M DI-NOC is that it only comes in a maximum width of 48 inces, or 4 feet. While it’s not possible to get wider material, there is a method called splicing which you can use to connect two pieces together while minimizing the seam in-between. In the below video we show you how best to use this method, as it’s very simple to do:\r\n\r\n

Measurement Conversion Chart For Our International Customers

We don’t all look at the same measurement formats, and we tend to get a lot of questions about what size if what in a different conversion. We went ahead and put together this measurement conversion chart which shows all of the sizes as well as what it is in sq/ft, feet, inches, yards, meters, and centimeters. We hope this helps! We’ve also added it to our FAQ where many other questions are also answered.

Video: How To Wrap Your Light Switch Plates With 3M’s Carbon Fiber Vinyl

One of the first projects we did with 3M’s carbon fiber DI-NOC material was cover our light switch plates.  It’s a simple part to wrap, it’s good practice, it doesn’t take very much material, and it looks amazing:\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nWe’ve seen a few of our customers do the same thing, so to help you guys out we’ve created a little video which shows you how we installed it:\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nHere’s a couple pictures so you can see how it turned out:\r\n\r\n

What Makes 3M’s Carbon Fiber DI-NOC Film So Easy To Install?

The simple answer is 3M’s Comply adhesive.  What exactly is this though and how does it make any difference compared to other vinyls out there?  Take a look at the picture below:\r\n\r\n3M Comply adhesive\r\n\r\nThis picture is the back of the carbon fiber vinyl after you remove the paper…so it’s the sticky part.  Regular adhesive has a flat/smooth backing, but as you can see, this actually has a grid of squares.  All of those little squares allow air to easily escape through microreplicated channels under the surface of the film as it’s being applied.  The result is a much easier installation with less chance of air bubbles.  On top of that, you would install the vinyl using the dry method, which means there is no need to use soapy water to apply.  If you mess up, you can simply pull it back off and re-stick it.\r\n\r\nThis is just one of the many reasons why the carbon fiber vinyl we carry here at Carbon Fiber Film is the best out there.

Carbon Fiber Vinyl Gets In The Game…Guitar Hero That Is

We just love when we get e-mails from our customers that have installed 3M’s carbon fiber DI-NOC vinyl on a unique item. This time around Rod took his Playstation 3 guitar for Guitar Hero, and wrapped it with the film:\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nHe did a great job, and because of the flat surface, it looks like it was pretty easy to do. The hardest part would be doing a clean cut of the material to match the guitar shape.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nRod is a musician and does plan on wrapping his real acoustic guitar. He had really great things to say about the material:\r\n

What I like the most about the material is that is very forgiven and easy to use…. just apply some heat and your can do whatever you like. I used the rest of my material for small things like my credit card and office mouse. The quality of the vinyl is really superb and it looks really nice!\r\n\r\nWhen wrapping the guitar hero guitar with the vinyl, be sure to completely remove the faceplate for easier installation and better finishing.\r\n\r\nBehind the guitar there is a button to easily unlock and remove the faceplate.

Subaru STI Interior Updated With Carbon Fiber Vinyl

One of our customers, David, used the 3M DI-NOC carbon fiber vinyl to wrap some of the accents inside the interior of his Subari STI.  He wrapped the center console, the shift knob, and the air conditioning vents surround:\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHe also wrapped a couple of the pieces in his engine compartment:\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nDavid was surprised how the material was so thick, but once heat is added it becomes very flexible and easy work with.  Good job with the install David!  You can check out more pics in our gallery.\r\n\r\n

Carbon Fiber Wrap In The Snow: 2006 Yamaha Nytro ER Snowmobile

While it probably wouldn’t be the first thing you would guess that DI-NOC would be installed on, one of our customers decided to put it on his 2006 Yamaha Nytro ER snowmobile.\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nYou can see how it looked like before installation, because the DI-NOC gives off a matte look, it will help keep his snowmobile looking new.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nJeff initially came to us with a few concerns about installation.  3M DI-NOC has no problems holding up in cold weather, though the optimal temperature when installing is between 60-100 degrees.  Luckily the snowmobile is stored indoors, and this wasn’t a problem.  We also highly recommend using 3M Primer94 to better bond the material and keep the edges from peeling.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nJeff thought the material was great, it had a nice texture, and so far had no problem holding up to the elements.  It was his first time ever working with vinyl, so there was a bit of a learning curve.  The complete install took about 3 hours with another person helping.  He recommends having somebody help you out, and to use a lot of heat which makes the material a lot easier to apply smoothly (he used a hair dryer).\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe hardest parts working around all of the tight spots making it look perfect, while the visor was the easiest section.  You’ll need patience if you want it perfect!\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nGreat job Jeff!  For more picture examples, check out our gallery.

DJ Gives His Technics 1200 MK2 Turntable The Carbon Fiber Look

One customer of ours put aside some extra 3M DI-NOC carbon fiber vinyl that he ordered from us, and decided to wrap his Technics 1200 MK2 turntable plinth.\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nAside from the carbon fiber vinyl, Will’s 1200 MK2 turntable is modified in a variety of other ways.  He has a real carbon fiber straight tonearm from Jesse Dean of Tempo Records.  On top of that, he also has modified LED lighting, a custom-painted platter, and a variety of other little modifications…making this turntable one-of-a-kind.  Here’s some more pictures:\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWill thought the material was easy to install, but was sure to add that using a heat gun was indispensable.  He said it turns the material into a stretchable film that felt like a wallpaper sort of material.  He wish he had used an squeegee to smooth it out, but was able to make do with a credit card.\r\n

The pictures simply do not do it justice, this stuff looks pretty amazing in person. I’ve been a huge carbon fiber fan since my import car days, and even have a carbon fiber toilet seat in my house…I was a little apprehensive about a carbon-look film but I’m very happy with how it turned out.

\r\n

\r\n\r\nAnother tip that Will provided was that he had cleaned the surface with alcohol prior to installing.  He’s already wandering his house looking for other things he can install the material on!\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nYou can see more pics in our gallery.

Bentley Continental GT With 3M Carbon Fiber DI-NOC Interior Trim

JS Design Factory/ProMax Motorsports out of Alhambra, CA have recently completed installing our 3M carbon fiber DI-NOC vinyl on the interior trim of a Bentley Continental GT.  While I would start to consider using real carbon fiber, especially on a $100k+ vehicle, sometimes that’s just not realistic.  That’s when 3M’s DI-NOC offers a great alternative.\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe customer was extremely happy with the end result, and we’ll be sure to see many more installs coming from these guys.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nTo see more pics, check out our gallery.
